Christmas is already here. So, what special are you doing to celebrate merry x mas with your dear antiques. Try adding antiques and collectibles to your decoration. This offers a stylish, interesting, and a lot practical way to perk up your room. It is economical if you shop wisely enough. Here are some great and simple ideas to celebrate this years Christmas in some unique and more interesting way!

Group like Objects as one:

Whether you’ve a comprehensive outstanding collection of an eclectic mix of antique teddy bears or Roseville pottery, aligning like objects as one on a shelf, table or mantle will definitely make more of an impact than distributing them about a room. Show a discrepancy in the size and shape of objects in your collectible groupings. This will make them extra interesting.

Blend Old amid New:

Try adding up interesting antiques and collectibles to contemporary décor. This grants an opportunity to embellish the room with a conversation piece that is obvious. Architectural antiques are great options for this, however anything old and unusual will also do. Like the Favorite family heirlooms can work well in this occasion too.

Alternate Your Collectibles:

Maybe you own a collection of Hall China and Shawnee Pottery, but don’t have a room to display both at the simultaneously. Rotate them out a couple of times. You’ll have an opportunity to enjoy your collections whilst smarting up your living space for merry x-mas.

These are only few proposals, to celebrate Christmas with your exquisite and beautiful antiques. Have a very Merry X-Mas and a Happy New Year! God bless you!

Several antiques lovers utilize a long wave black light to date objects and test for genuineness. A few hints to age or telltale signs of repair aren’t easily visible to the bare eye, but will shine under ultraviolet light. Although it’s not the end all response in antique authentication and dating, it is a good place to start. Read on for 4 fine ways to utilize black light testing

ü Detect Porcelain Repairs: Prior to buying or selling a nice piece of porcelain, always take it into a darkened room with a keychain black light to test for repairs. Contemporary paints will glow under the black light as well hence you can identify touch-ups, repaints and embellishments with ultraviolet light.

ü Test for Reproduction Glass: Both green Depression glass and Vaseline glass will shine under a black light due the uranium oxide content in the glass. A number of people report that American brilliant cut glass casts a yellow color under ultraviolet light, while others say it glows pale violet or blue. So, make certain to follow up with additional research to ensure cut glass authenticity.

ü Testing Ephemera: Old books, postcards, photos, signs and other paper products made before the late 1930s seldom glow under a black light. Though, chemical bleaches and dyes used in contemporary papers will shine under ultraviolet light. This helps to identify forged documents and discriminate reproductions in all types of ephemera. So, before purchasing any rare paper memorabilia have it examined by a specialist who has the knowledge and tools ahead of black light testing to aid in authentication.

ü Confirm Cast Iron: Many precious vintage banks, mechanical toys and door stops from the near of beginning 1900s were made from cast iron. These genuine articles with unique and original paint are still rather valuable to ardent collectors. As most modern paints will shine, you can utilize your black light to make sure for reproductions and painted repairs on cast iron pieces earlier than making a costly mistake. If the paint doesn’t glow, look for extra signs of age and wear to certify the piece is really as mature as you think it to be.

Always remember to Check and examine thoroughly, before buying any, I mean any antique article.

My default antique shopping places are India and Israel. India enjoys the pleasure of varied culture and ancient history. For these reasons and more India is my one of favorite stop for antique shopping. You may find rarest of antique, though lil efforts will be needed. But as they said, no pain no gain.

I’ve mostly traveled the northern India till now.And needless to say, it superb place for hunting down
antiques ranging from medieval and ancient period. Places like Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur and more are best for seeking and getting your favorite piece.

My next best stop is Israel. This year, I suppose, was my second or third visit to Israel in search of rare antiques and like I’ve said for former, this is also absolutely an amazing and exciting place to be for hunting some of the most valuable antique objects. I’ve found some of the rarest and most prized articles from Israel. And those beautiful antique items have always been cherished by me.

Apart from being a great place for seeking antique articles, both India and Israel are no doubt a huge and good tourist destinations. I like to travel both my stops as frequently as possible.

The streets and lanes of both the nations are no less than treasure troves. They always have something new to
discover and something new to offer. That’s why I’ve chosen India and Israel as my best stop for hunting any antique articles.

I’m back here! And that too with a bang. Been on an Italy and Israel tour with my family. And my wife strictly warned me of “blogging” especially antique blogging, while we were on the tour.

We both took out some precious time, from the busy and hectic schedule, to spend some quality time with each other. It was one of ours great and lovely tour.

It was much fun traveling and more traveling, from one place to another. Italy, as you all know is like heaven on earth, besides being the fashion capital and one of the most romantic places to visit.

On the other hand, Israel is nice place for hunting antiques. Israel has always been one of my most loved place for antiques, ranging from all odds and ends. Besides, being a good place for touring around.

So, when were in Israel, my sweet darling warned me of “antiques”, but still my eyes searched and glanced at one or the other master pieces. I really felt like buying all those antiques at any price. But the look in my wife’s eyes scared me, made me drop the plan.

But now I’m back. Master of myself (maybe!). Well, it’s always a good indeed a very good idea to take out some time for ones family, and spend great time with them. Above all, why do earn millions and millions of bucks.

Yes! To splurge it with your family and of course yourself.

And the scale doesn’t seem to go down so soon! Collecting, gathering and preserving such maps have long been my sole passion. This is one of my favorite leisure activities.

It becomes, quite very easy for me to seek and find such maps; as most of time I am busy traveling from one place to another. My job requires traveling. But apart from this, traveling has now become my hobby, which was once a headache for me.

The demand and the reasons for this demand have increased manifolds. Earlier, I mean to say a little still earlier, such antique maps weren’t so significant or noteworthy. Though not many reason support this. One of being the rarity.

But today, their need and claim have risen to great heights. Besides being collector’s pride, such maps equally serve their role, function and volubility in institutions, for instance colleges, libraries and museums and the like.

Such antique maps are very intriguing and eye-catching. Even if, one is not particularly interested in them, one can’t stop oneself from praising and admiring the artistic and aesthetic sense of them. You need not be a high scholar to extol and discern the usefulness of such maps.

Antique maps have always been a rare and treasured piece of item all over the globe. Not only are they historically important, but also are of geographically strategic. So the next time you get lost, don’t forget to take help from an antique map!

Thus, Maps from 16th, 17th, and 18th century were so planned and designed that they served the dual purpose of instructing and for drawing client’s attention.

Such maps, by and large, reflected the creative profile of the times, when they were created and shaped. One can very well see, the late 16th century maps, which saw the style and fashion of enfolding the title of the map or mileage scale in an ornamental pictograph.

But soon, the method and style changed and Baroque emerged as the most fashionable style. It originated from Italy, in the late 16th century; integrating minute details and heavy facets, with gallant and bold sweeping curves.

Such hold and ancient maps have always inspired me in one or more ways. These are the prized and loved possession I proudly own, though not many. They are apart from being useful and significant in their own way, are also a decorative and amazing object or article to dangle it down on ones wall. My living room is full with it!

The only fact remaining, that they are in use no longer.

But it’s amazing to see, the ever increment in their demand as decorative or rather as an antique piece. One can see a number of numismatists, who enjoy and flaunt their huge coin collection. Like for any other antique piece, furniture or vintage, antique coins appraisal, is also much demanding.

More than being eye-catching, such antique coins, especially, gold ones are money-spinning part of any numismatist’s collection. Every such owner treasure and cherish such gold coins both for their exquisiteness and for their investment potential.

Besides being a prized collection because of their aesthetic and artistic value, these are also been used as an investment vehicle. The cost per ounce of gold has always been a secured investment bet.

Acquiring this commodity in gold coins is life-size business and trade. So, you should always do a good research and hunt for fine advice, guidance and recommendation; if possible primarily from free, autonomous and unbiased sources.

Virtually, all antique collectors are big tourist. Each such tourist carries a unique and unusual approach and belief, attitude, and outlook different from another.

You may come across many barriers, while buying and selling such antique objects. Foremost being not getting enough time. This the age, where, one can’t find enough time for oneself, forget about taking it out others.

Fresher and newbie in this field, find it mush difficult to take out adequate time for traveling. So, most of them try to see as many as unusual and a variety of places as they can, with the limited number of days and weeks they get.

Secondly, overseas trade is influence by many aspects and reason. It necessitates a good deal of cleverness, skill and knowledge of what is available and where to seek and find for it, and what’s the season for buying and selling. One more barrier, which seems to be underestimated, is language. And this is surely chased by bucks in ones pockets

Tourists find it easy to shop in places were English is a common and familiar language, besides the easy availability of such articles. London and Paris being the best and the first choice for collectors.

These are only some of the obstruction and stumbling block, which I have faced and good or bad, still facing. But I m constantly, trying to improve upon myself. Nonetheless, traveling for antique business has remained and hope will remain so, for each year to come.
